NOTE: Our Monday / Wednesday Night Skates and Sunday Piedmont Park have been going on for DECADES. Regardless of the date on this article, this is the schedule still. (For rsvp and other info, please see the Facebook group page)
Night Skates start at the Carter Center NE Lot (999 Madeira Ave on Google Maps or Waze) Monday, 8:30pm, Intermediate (10-15 miles) and casual groups (6-10 miles), year-round. Wednesday, 8:30pm, Intermediate (10-15 miles) and casual groups (6-10 miles), year-round.
Sunday Skates in/from Piedmont Park: 2ish to 5pm-ish, freestyle slalom cones, soccer ball, barrels, dancing; 12th street entrance triangle. Followed by a Beltline stroll. RAIN: alternate sheltered location may be publicized on FB page.
Other Often Weekly Skates -- please check the FB page to make sure it is happening this week: 1. Saturday Morning Speed Technique Session with Ashly at Stone Mtn Middle School track. 2. Saturday afternoon (or late morning in summer?) Silver Comet Beginner Distance skate with Miki. 3. Sunday morning A2A-prep Comic Skate Avondale to Stone Mtn (18+ miles)
Other Skates as Announced: 1. Out of Town day trips with Chris to Chattanooga, Carrolllton, Columbus (usually on a Sunday) 2. Beginner City Skate with Justin (Thursday eve from Roll ATL?)

The Sunday Zzz Skate departs at 10:30AM. This is the normal roll out time for the season. Season ends after Labor Day weekend. Changes for 2012 include: longer routes, new streets, and a boycott of Neighbors Pub. Group up location is Piedmont Park (at the 10th Street entrance). See the Zzz skate details below (Note: this is intended for intermediate level skaters). If you are interested in a beginner skate, please consider the 9AM Sunday Beginner Skate. Note: This skate is actively led Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Zzz Skate details:
Pace: 9-11 mph Distance: 8-10 miles Duration: 1-1.5 hours Group up at 10:15AM at Piedmont Park near the 10th St entrance (across from Charles Allen) Departs at 10:30AM Brunch around 11:30PM in the Va-Hi neighborhood (location TBD) Requirements:
Control speed using a heel brake Helmet Wrist guards Cold Water is strongly recommended

Update: This event has been moved to Nashville, TN at the Asphalt Beach Skate Shop. All of the information below is still valid except location. Please refer to the APRR listserve for information about ride share.
For the first time in over ten years, the Skate Instructors Association is coming to Atlanta to deliver a Level 1 Skate Instructor Certification course. If you are a group skate leader, want to grow your own skating skills, or you just want to share your love of skating with others then this course is made for you. You'll learn how to teach the most crucial moves to to help new skaters roll with confidence in no time. By the end of the workshop you'll be able to teach:
- V Walk and Basic Stride
- Heel Stop or Toe Stop (Hockey stop for hockey coaches)
- A Frame turn – both directions
- Parallel turns – both directions
- Spin Stops
- Crossovers in a circle – both directions
- Backwards skating – swizzles
- Mohawk transitions – all directions

On Sunday I will lead a Sunday Beginner Skate at 9:00 AM. This skate route is a little shorter than the regular Zzz Skate routes and rolls at a slower pace. Se the Sunday Beginner Skate details below.
The Zzz Skate will depart at 10:30AM. This will be the normal roll out time for the season. Group up location is Piedmont Park (at the 10th Street entrance). See the Zzz skate details below.
Beginner Skate details:
- Pace: 7-9 mph
- Distance: 5-7 miles
- Duration: 1-1.5 hours
- Group up at 8:45AM at Piedmont Park near the 10th St entrance (across from Charles Allen)
- Departs at 9AM
